LONDON: David Glover, the former head of specialist factual at Channel 4, and Mark Raphael, joint managing director of Dragonfly, have set up a new independent production outfit, which is backed by BBC Worldwide.<\/p>\n

BBC Worldwide has purchased a 15 percent shareholding in the indie, 72 Films. In return, the BBC\u2019s commercial and international arm will receive global distribution rights to all programming developed by the factual producer.<\/p>\n

Glover commented: \u201cWe think the most interesting and successful shows are the ones that don’t fit into the traditionally accepted TV genres. In some ways that makes the process of getting them off the ground a bit more challenging but it’s ultimately much more stimulating to work that way. We\u2019re very excited about this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raphael added: \u201cWe\u2019re really happy to be working with BBC Worldwide. What drives us is a desire to make programs that millions of people love\u2014and ideally ones that make a positive contribution to culture.\u201d<\/p>\n
