The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has unveiled the nominees for the 46th News & Documentary Emmy Awards, which will be presented across two ceremonies on June 25 and 26.<\/p>\n
NATAS received over 2,200 submissions for the awards, which were then judged by a pool of more than 980 peer professionals. The documentary awards section features categories for current affairs, politics and government, social issues, investigation, history, arts and culture, science and technology, nature, business and economics, and crime and justice, among many others.<\/p>\n

In the overall best documentary category, nominees are American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders<\/em> (Netflix), The Commandant\u2019s Shadow<\/em> (HBO\/Max), The Grab<\/em> (Apple TV+, Google Play, Prime Video, VIMEO, Vudu, YouTube), Hollywood Black<\/em> (MGM+), Mammals<\/em> (BBC America, BBC+), Queendom<\/em> (Galdanova Film), The Sing Sing Chronicles<\/em> (MSNBC), The Sixth<\/em> (Amazon, Apple TV) and The Truth vs. Alex Jones<\/em> (HBO\/Max).<\/p>\n Contenders for outstanding current affairs documentary are 64 Days: The Insurrection Playbook<\/em> (Goldcrest Films), Bread & Roses<\/em> (Apple TV+), Print it Black<\/em> (ABC), We Will Dance Again<\/em> (Paramount+) and A Year of War: Israelis and Palestinians<\/em> (PBS).<\/p>\n Nominees for outstanding politics and government documentary include Battleground Texas<\/em> (VICE News); The Body Politic<\/em> (POV); Carville: Winning is Everything, Stupid<\/em> (CNN Worldwide); From Russia with Lev<\/em> (MSNBC); The Riot Report<\/em> (PBS); The Sixth<\/em> (Amazon, Apple TV); and Who\u2019s Afraid of Nathan Law?<\/em> (PBS).<\/p>\n In the outstanding social issue documentary section, Daughters<\/em> (Netflix), Death Without Mercy<\/em> (Showtime), Name Me Lawand<\/em> (PBS), One With the Whale<\/em> (PBS) and Two American Families: 1991-2024<\/em> (PBS) are nominated.<\/p>\n Up for outstanding investigative documentary are Netflix\u2019s American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders<\/em>, PBS\u2019s A Dangerous Assignment: Uncovering Corruption in Maduro\u2019s Venezuela<\/em>, Apple TV+\u2019s The Grab<\/em>, Al Jazeera International USA\u2019s The Night Won\u2019t End<\/em> and PBS\u2019s South Korea\u2019s Adoption Reckoning<\/em>.<\/p>\n The historical documentary category sees An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th<\/em> (HBO\/Max), Fly With Me<\/em> (PBS), The Sixth<\/em> (Amazon, Apple TV), Tsunami: Race Against Time<\/em> (National Geographic) and Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War<\/em> (Netflix) as contenders.<\/p>\n For arts and culture, nominated documentaries are Paramount+\u2019s As We Speak: Rap Music on Trial<\/em>, Netflix\u2019s Butterfly in the Sky<\/em>, MGM+\u2019s Hollywood Black<\/em>, PBS\u2019s King Coal<\/em> and Disney+\u2019s Madu<\/em>.<\/p>\n In the science and technology category, Anand Varma: Hidden Wonders<\/em> (National Geographic), Apollo 13: Survival<\/em> (Netflix), Hunt for the Oldest DNA<\/em> (PBS), The Space Race<\/em> (National Geographic) and What\u2019s Next? The Future with Bill Gates<\/em> (Netflix) are nominees.<\/p>\n Attenborough and the Jurassic Sea Monster<\/em> (PBS), Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story<\/em> (National Geographic), Grizzly 399: Queen of the Tetons<\/em> (PBS), Our Living World <\/em>(Netflix), Patrick and the Whale<\/em> (PBS), Paul Nicklen & Cristina Mittermeier: Win or Die<\/em> (National Geographic) and Silverback<\/em> (PBS) are nominated for outstanding nature documentary.<\/p>\n Outstanding business and economic documentary nominees include Bitconned<\/em> (Netflix); Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy<\/em> (Netflix); Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge<\/em> (Hulu); The Hobby<\/em> (Documentary+); Moviepass, Moviecrash<\/em> (HBO\/Max); and Razing Liberty Square<\/em> (PBS).<\/p>\n Nominated for the outstanding crime and justice documentary are Cult Massacre: One Day In Jonestown<\/em> (National Geographic), Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter<\/em> (Netflix), Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer<\/em> (Hulu), Poisoned Ground: The Tragedy at Love Canal<\/em> (PBS) and The Truth vs. Alex Jones<\/em> (HBO\/Max).<\/p>\n Nominees in the short category are The Dirty Business of Monkey Laundering<\/em> (Bloomberg), Love To The Max<\/em> (The New Yorker), Motorcycle Mary<\/em> (ESPN), Swept<\/em> (Human Rights Watch) and Wings of Dust<\/em> (Documentary+).<\/p>\n Nominees for the news Emmys and other documentary categories can be found on the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences\u2019 website. The news awards will be presented on June 25, while the documentary awards ceremony will take place on June 26.
