ZDF Studios arrives at MIPCOM with highlights across its key strengths of history, wildlife and science. Produced by south&browse for ZDF in association with ARTE and ZDF Studios, Unearthed\u2013The Mystery of the Shaman Woman<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0explores a key European archaeological discovery: the shaman woman of Bad D\u00fcrrenberg. \u201cFrom a time when there were no written records, this site was first researched by the Nazis, who saw a physically strong male warrior from an \u2018original Aryan race\u2019 in the buried person,\u201d says Ralf R\u00fcckauer, VP Unscripted. \u201cIt was, in fact, the most powerful woman of her time.\u201d ZDF Studios is also unveiling the three-part\u00a0Welcome to the Forest<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>, which offers a unique perspective on battling climate change. R\u00fcckauer also highlights the five-part\u00a0Fateful Planet<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>, which \u201cchronicles the history of our planet from its dramatic birth, through the cosmic and terrestrial forces that have shaped it.\u201d R\u00fcckauer bills\u00a0Time: A Journey Through Thousands of Years<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0as a \u201cgroundbreaking two-part documentary focusing on the universal concept of time.\u201d It is ZDF Studios\u2019 first collaboration with the Film, Drama and Documentary Programming Center of China Media Group.<\/p>\n

All3Media International is catering to the surging demand for true-crime fare with a selection of titles, among them the volume offering FBI True<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0from Bright North Studios. \u201cRevealing exclusive insight into stories of FBI agents and their most infamous cases, this is a brand-new high-profile and high-volume true-crime offering,\u201d says Caroline Stephenson, senior VP for sales in the U.K. and Eire. The company is also showcasing the three-part\u00a0The Body Next Door<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, which \u201claunched as Sky Documentaries\u2019 highest-rated series this year,\u201d Stephenson says. \u201cForensically told and emotionally compelling,\u00a0The Body Next Door<\/em>\u00a0is a globe-spanning story intertwining a gripping and tragic murder mystery with a dramatic family saga.\u201d Another true-crime highlight from the company is\u00a0Confessions of a Teenage Fraudster<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>, a two-parter about con artist Elliot Castro.<\/p>\n

Commissioned by Channel 4, MH17: The Plane Crash That Shook the World<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0takes an in-depth look at the Malaysia Airlines flight shot down by Russian-backed forces a decade ago. \u201cIt examines the disaster and its legacy, uncovering a story that takes us right up to the present day,\u201d says Tatiana Grinkevich, head of sales at BossaNova Media, which is launching the documentary at MIPCOM. Also in the history space, the company is showcasing\u00a0Greatest Escapes of World War 2<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>, a six-part series. Meanwhile, Professor Alice Roberts explores Greek history via rail through Greece and Turkey in\u00a0Ancient Greece by Train<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>. \u201cHaving explored Ancient Egypt and the Ottoman Empire by train, Professor Alice Roberts continues her journey as she learns about the Ancient Greek civilization that has had such a powerful effect on our lives today,\u201d Grinkevich says.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the broad variety of the All3Media International non-scripted slate, the company is also showcasing the fourth season of Race Across the World<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>, which \u201ccombines a game show, a travel show and a reality show all in one,\u201d says Peta Sykes, VP for the Nordics. In the dating\/relationships space, the company is touting\u00a0Bad Boyfriends<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>. \u201cFilled with humor, plenty of mischief and explosive drama along the way, Olivia Attwood\u2019s tough love approach makes this series incredibly addictive and entertaining.\u201d Also on offer is the 90-minute doc\u00a0Guy Martin: Top Gun<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

New natural-history titles rolling out at MIPCOM include the feature Norway\u2014A Call from the Wild<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0from filmmaker Asgeir Helgestad (Queen Without Land<\/em>) and on offer from Albatross World Sales. \u201cNorway\u2014A Call from the Wild<\/em>, already an award winner, offers breathtaking cinematography and a personal narrative that highlights the universal theme of nature\u2019s vulnerability,\u201d says Anne Olzmann, the company\u2019s managing director.<\/p>\n

NHK Enterprises also has a new blue-chip wildlife production on offer: Mighty Monkey<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(w.t.). \u201cShot in beautiful 4K UHD, the cameras travel through Japan to capture unique monkey groups displaying different localized food habits, including world-first footage of monkeys catching live fish, as well as how such new behaviors spread among individuals in the pack,\u201d says Akiko Nakano, senior manager of content sales. The commercial arm of the Japanese pubcaster also heads to Cannes with\u00a0Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>, chronicling the famed animator\u2019s journey to make\u00a0The Boy and the Heron<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Among Passion Distribution\u2019s new MIPCOM launches is the four-part Love My Face<\/a><\/u><\/em><\/strong>, a factual-entertainment show about people with visible facial differences. \u201cThis warm, uplifting series deals with highly relatable themes of self-acceptance and personal transformation, which resonate globally,\u201d says Emmanuelle Namiech, CEO.<\/p>\n
