{"id":20445,"date":"2023-11-21T09:03:31","date_gmt":"2023-11-21T14:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvreal\/bbc-benches-top-gear\/"},"modified":"2023-11-21T10:26:02","modified_gmt":"2023-11-21T15:26:02","slug":"bbc-benches-top-gear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvreal\/bbc-benches-top-gear\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC Benches Top Gear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The BBC is halting <em>Top Gear<\/em>\u00a0in the U.K. \u201cfor the foreseeable future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The news comes after a December 2022 accident involving Andrew \u201cFreddie\u201d Flintoff while filming season 34.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the exceptional circumstances, the BBC has decided to rest the U.K. show for the foreseeable future,\u201d the pubcaster said in a statement. \u201cThe BBC remains committed to Freddie, Chris and Paddy, who have been at the heart of the show\u2019s renaissance since 2019, and we\u2019re excited about new projects being developed with each of them. We will have more to say in the near future on this. We know resting the show will be disappointing news for fans, but it is the right thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other<em> Top Gear<\/em> activities, including international versions, digital, magazines and licensing, are not impacted by the U.K. hiatus.<\/p>\n<p>In March of this year, BBC Studios said it had concluded its investigation into the accident at the Top Gear Test Track in Surrey and had apologized to Flintoff.
