The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has revealed eight nominees spanning six countries for the 2023 news and current affairs categories of the International Emmy Awards.<\/p>\n

The nominees come from Brazil, Israel, Qatar, Sweden, Turkey and the U.K. Winners are set to be recognized alongside their American news peers during a ceremony in New York City on September 27.<\/p>\n

Nominated programs in the news category include stories on the war in Ukraine (The Battle For Bucha & Irpin<\/em>, Sky News, U.K.) and the death of Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh while on assignment in the West Bank (Shireen Abu Akleh\u2019s Killing<\/em>, Al Jazeera English, Qatar).<\/p>\n

Also nominated in news is Jornal Nacional and Fant\u00e1stico: The Murder Of Bruno And Dom<\/em>, from Globo, following the disappearance and deaths of Brazilian researcher of Indigenous culture Bruno Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips in the Amazon. The final nominee in the category, TV4\u2019s Nyheterna: Beyond Enemy Line<\/em>, follows correspondent Stefan Borg and cameraman Felix Larno in Russia-occupied territory as they report on the war.<\/p>\n

Among the nominees in the current affairs category is David Modell Productions\u2019 Exposure: The Crossing<\/em>, from the U.K. It reveals who was responsible when more than 30 asylum seekers perished trying to cross the sea from France to Britain on an inflatable boat. A nominee from Brazil, GloboNews Documentary: Shelter\u2014Innocents Under Fire<\/em>, pulls its audience\u2019s focus toward those who are heavily harmed during conflict despite being far from the battlefields.<\/p>\n

Final nominees in current affairs are Off The Grid\u2014Ukraine Wartime Diaries<\/em> (TRT World, Turkey) and UVDA: Last stop before Kyiv<\/em> (I.D UVDA and Keshet Media Group, Israel). While the former focuses on revealing the brutality of the Russian occupation as their troops withdraw, the latter reports on the resilience and hope found in the Ukrainian people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
