Wildscreen has revealed the nominees for the 2022 Panda Awards, with My Garden of a Thousand Bees<\/em> and The Green Planet<\/em> leading the pack.<\/p>\n

From Passion Planet, My Garden of a Thousand Bees<\/em> is in the running for five awards: behavior, editing, producer\/director, scripted narrative and sound awards. The film follows as wildlife filmmaker Martin Dohrn turns his lens on his own urban garden.<\/p>\n

Tied with five nominations is BBC Studios Natural History Unit\u2019s The Green Planet<\/em>, narrated by David Attenborough. The series, highlighting the dramatic lives of plants, is up for the behavior, cinematography, music, producer\/director and series awards.<\/p>\n

Austrian-based Terra Mater Studios leads the way as the most nominated production company outside of the U.K., with seven category nominations. Its feature film Patrick and the Whale<\/em> is nominated for three awards: editing, producer\/director and sound.<\/p>\n

In addition to My Garden of a Thousand Bees<\/em> and The Green Planet: Desert Worlds<\/em>, Tiny World\u2014Island<\/em> from Plimsoll Productions is also up for the behavior award.<\/p>\n

Projects up for cinematography are Dynasties II: Puma<\/em> from BBC Studios Natural History Unit, Polar<\/em> from Silverback Films and The Green Planet: Tropical Worlds<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The editing award nominees are My Garden of a Thousand Bees<\/em>; Patrick and the Whale<\/em>; and Penguin Town: Learning to Fly<\/em>, from Netflix and Red Rock Films.<\/p>\n

Nominations for the emerging talent award went to Mattia Cialoni for My Neighbour is a Bear<\/em>, Conor Ferris for Seabird<\/em> and Lior Kestenberg for Snakes & Ladders<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Bears About the House<\/em> from BBC Studios Natural History Unit; Path of the Panther<\/em> from Grizzly Creek Films, Wildpath and Common Pictures; and Tiger 24<\/em> from W Films and The Tiger Fund are up for the Save Our Seas Foundation impact award.<\/p>\n

In the music category, nominees are Nature\u2019s Networks<\/em> from Terra Mater Factual Studios; The Bastard King<\/em>\u00a0from Terra Mater Studios, Bonne Pioche and Shibumi Films; and The Green Planet: Water Worlds<\/em> from BBC Studios, PBS, bilibili, ZDF, CCTV9, France T\u00e9l\u00e9visions and The Open University.<\/p>\n

On-screen talent award nominees are Aaron Gekoski for Eyes of the Orangutan<\/em>, Jack Harries for Seat at the Table: How the Climate Crisis Affects Us All<\/em> and Warren Pereira for Tiger 24<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Fighting the Heat<\/em> and Doug Gimesy, Historical Rescue of Caimans in Pantanal<\/em> and Fernando Jara Faciole, and Planktonium<\/em> and Jan van Ijken are up for the photo story award.<\/p>\n

The producer\/director award nominations include David Allen, Martin Dohrn and Gaby Bastyra for My Garden of a Thousand Bees<\/em>; Mark Fletcher, Walter K\u00f6hler and Wolfgang Kn\u00f6pfler for\u00a0Patrick and the Whale<\/em>; and Elisabeth Oakham for The Green Planet: Human Worlds<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Nominated for the production team award are the teams behind Patagonia\u2014Life on the Edge of the World<\/em> from Plimsoll Productions; Path of the Panther<\/em> from Grizzly Creek Films, Wildpath and Common Pictures; and Springwatch 2020<\/em> from BBC Studios Natural History Unit.<\/p>\n

In addition to My Garden of a Thousand Bees<\/em>, scripted narrative award nominees are Penguin Town: Hot and Bothered<\/em> from Netflix and Red Rock Films and Pumas: Legens of the Ice Mountains<\/em> episode 2 from Terra Mater Factual Studios.<\/p>\n

Series award nominees are Mediterranean: Life Under Siege<\/em> from Boreales, Patagonia\u2014Life on the Edge of the World<\/em>, Penguin Town<\/em> and The Green Planet<\/em>.<\/p>\n

My Garden of a Thousand Bees<\/em>, Patrick and the Whale<\/em> and Welcome to Earth: The Silent Roar<\/em> from Nutopia are nominated in the sound category.<\/p>\n

Lastly, the sustainability award nominees are Springwatch 2021<\/em> from BBC Studios Natural History Unit; Surviving Paradise: A Family Tale<\/em> from Netflix, Wild Space Productions, Natural History Film Unit Botswana and Freeborne Media; and SURVIVORS: Rediscovering the Short-Tailed Rain Crayfish<\/em> from Bookend Trust.<\/p>\n

Ruth Berry, chair of the nomination jury, said, \u201cThe 2022 Panda Awards competition attracted over 700 entries from 38 countries. Although coronavirus has had a large impact on production and creativity over the past two years, it lured filmmakers closer to their own backyards to produce inspiring and intimate stories.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year’s nominations show a strong trend away from the classic interpretation of natural history,\u201d she noted. \u201cWe are no longer \u2018observers\u2019 of the natural world, we are a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
