A+E Networks UK and Sky have commissioned The Royal Mob<\/em> from Nutopia for the Sky HISTORY channel.<\/p>\n

The docu-drama tells the story of the extended royal family\u2014dubbed \u201cThe Royal Mob\u201d by Queen Victoria\u2014and how their loves, marriages and feuds dragged the European continent into the world\u2019s first total war and violent revolution.<\/p>\n

The docu-drama is told through the eyes of Queen Victoria\u2019s favorite granddaughters\u2014the four Hesse sisters, each of whom married into Europe\u2019s royal courts. Michele Dotrice (Vanity Fair<\/em>, The Importance of Being Earnest<\/em>) will play the role of Queen Victoria.<\/p>\n

The series combines premium scripted drama from writers Jamie Brittain (Skins<\/em>, Breeders<\/em>) and Abigail Wilson (Ten Percent<\/em>, Trollied<\/em>, The Tail of The Curious Mouse<\/em>, Larkins<\/em>) with expert historians Emma Dabiri (Hair Power<\/em>, Me and My Afro<\/em>), Simon Sebag Montefiore (author: The Romanovs: 1613-1918<\/em>,<\/span>\u00a0Young Stalin<\/em>), Priya Atwal (author: Royals and Rebels<\/em>, Empires of the Sikhs<\/em>) and Miranda Carter (author: Three Emperors<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Executive producers are Ben Goold, Jane Root and showrunner Tom Stubberfield. The series is currently in production and is set to broadcast on Sky HISTORY in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a lifelong history buff, I was absolutely delighted to be asked to work on The Royal Mob<\/em>,\u201d said writer Brittain. \u201cRather than feeling constrained by the historical basis of the drama, I found it to be a genuine creative boon, and the team’s ability to squirrel out weird, wonderful and previously overlooked details meant helping to bring these vivid characters to life was an absolute pleasure.\u201d<\/p>\n
