His name now synonymous with cycling, the documentary considers how much longer Liggett will continue to be the voice of the sport.<\/p>\n<p><em>Breakaway Femmes<\/em> centers on the six years during the 1980s when a women\u2019s Tour de France was held alongside the men\u2019s race and the women who raced then ahead of the return of the Tour de France, Femmes in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Producer Nick Bird said: \u201cWe set out to tell the story of a cycling commentator, but what we found was a man whose humanity and passion for the environment was as every bit as important as his sporting expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director Eleanor Sharpe added: \u201cThe story of the 1980s women\u2019s Tour de France has been criminally neglected for more than 30 years. It will be an absolute privilege to finally give these women the recognition and respect they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Natalie Lawley, managing director of Escapade Media, commented: \u201cThese are two exceptional documentaries that resonate around the world. Both provide insight into two iconic brands, one being the man, Phil Liggett, and the second one of the most famous races in the world but from a very different perspective.
