{"id":16504,"date":"2021-07-20T11:12:28","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T15:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvreal\/hbo-max-slates-eyes-prize-companion-doc\/"},"modified":"2021-07-20T14:07:41","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T18:07:41","slug":"hbo-max-slates-eyes-on-the-prize-companion-doc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvreal\/hbo-max-slates-eyes-on-the-prize-companion-doc\/","title":{"rendered":"HBO Max Slates Eyes on the Prize Companion Doc"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Part one of the award-winning PBS documentary <em>Eyes on the Prize<\/em> is now available to stream on HBO Max, with the platform prepping a one-hour companion special for launch in August.<\/p>\n<p>Sophia Nahli Allison (<em>A Love Song For Latasha<\/em>) is directing and executive producing<em>\u00a0Eyes on the Prize: Hallowed Ground<\/em>,<em>\u00a0<\/em>which<em>\u00a0<\/em>will honor\u00a0Henry Hampton&#8217;s landmark docuseries telling the definitive story of the civil rights movement from 1954 through the mid-1980s.<\/p>\n<p>Patrisse Cullors, Field\/House Productions\u2019 Mervyn Marcano and De La Revoluci\u00f3n Films\u2019 Melina Matsoukas are executive producing alongside\u00a0Anonymous Content\u2019s Joy Gorman Wettels, Bedonna Smith, Blackside\u2019s Judi Hampton and Sandra Forman are also executive producers.<\/p>\n<p>HBO is also in production on a new documentary series reflecting on the legacy of the civil rights movement together with\u00a0Cullors and\u00a0Marcano, Blackside\u2014the original producer of\u00a0<em>Eyes on the Prize<\/em>\u2014and\u00a0Anonymous Content.<\/p>\n<p>Casey Bloys, chief content officer for HBO and HBO Max, said, \u201cWe are very proud to be partnering with this dynamic team of activists and storytellers to bring this important work to our viewers. And every single time I\u2019ve watched it, I\u2019ve been moved to tears and moved to action. My organizing work and artistic practice was shaped by the hours of documentation I witnessed through <em>Eyes<\/em>. I am over the moon that I get to be a part of history by teaming up with Blackside, my producing partner, Mervyn Marcano, and the brilliant teams at Anonymous and WarnerMedia as we work to integrate the story of modern-day civil rights leaders for the new\u00a0<em>Eyes on the Prize: Hallowed Ground<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mervyn Marcano said, \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be continuing the enduring legacy of\u00a0<em>Eyes on the Prize<\/em>, which told a fuller and more complex story of the long fight for racial justice in our country. It\u2019s why\u00a0<em>Hallowed Ground<\/em>, helmed by our visionary director Sophia Nahli Allison, serves as the perfect start to a new chapter for <em>Eyes\u2014<\/em>it is an emotional reflection on our journey through turbulent times and the truths we need to tell each other to forge new futures. There are indeed so many stories left to tell about who we are as a nation and where we are going, and we are lucky to have\u00a0<em>Eyes on the Prize<\/em> continue to light the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joy Gorman Wettels, executive producer, said, \u201cAs a teenager watching\u00a0<em>Eyes on the Prize<\/em>, I was shocked, ashamed and moved by what Blackside brought to light that wasn\u2019t being taught in school.
