Channel 5 has commissioned four new specialist-factual series as it ramps up its stripped event history program offering.<\/p>\n
The newly commissioned titles include Tsunami<\/em>, which delves into unexplored details of the 2004 natural disaster; Costa Concordia<\/em>, which focuses on one of the worst maritime disasters in living memory; and the World War II-focused documentaries Countdown to War<\/em> and The Great Escape<\/em>. All of the series will air in 2021, with episodes shown on consecutive days of the week.<\/p>\n The bolstered slate builds upon sustained interest for historical stripped event programming on Channel 5, including The Great Plague<\/em>, presented by Xand van Tulleken, Raksha Dave and John Sergeant. There is also Pompeii\u2019s Final Hours: New Evidence<\/em>, fronted by Bettany Hughes, Dave and Sergeant. Both series were produced by Voltage, which has now been commissioned to produce Tsunami<\/em> and Countdown to War<\/em>.<\/p>\n Costa Concordia<\/em> will be produced by ITN Productions, while Viacom International Studios is set to produce The Great Escape<\/em>.<\/p>\n Lucy Willis, commissioning editor for Channel 5, said: \u201cAs we continue to broaden our original factual slate, our stripped event history programming will play an increasingly key role in the prime-time schedule. This box set approach to narrative history played over three nights resonates really well with our viewers.
