Rakuten TV has commissioned the original documentary series Champions<\/em>, which will explore the stories of six of the world\u2019s leading female soccer players.<\/p>\n

Champions<\/em> aims to dismantle prejudices present in professional football and show that it is no longer a sport only for men. It will see current female soccer stars travel to different countries to meet with long-time players and legends of the sport, as well as some of its rising stars. The 6×30-minute docuseries is currently in preproduction. It is slated to premiere exclusively and for free on Rakuten TV in the summer of 2021.<\/p>\n

Rakuten TV is producing the original docuseries in collaboration with El Ca\u00f1onazo Transmedia.<\/p>\n

Teresa L\u00f3pez, content director of Rakuten TV, said: “Optimism and empowerment of people are two core values of Rakuten TV that permeate the DNA of all our original content. It is a real privilege for us to be involved in a production of these characteristics that is destined to not only be a tribute to a select group of outstanding athletes, but also an echo of the social change portrayed through a group of women who fight every day to claim that talent knows no gender.”<\/p>\n

Roger Casas-Alatriste, CEO of El Ca\u00f1onazo Transmedia, stated: “We are very excited to embark on this project. Champions<\/em> is a series that brings together all the qualities of the projects that are best aligned with our values.
