Smithsonian Channel Latin America has acquired Clorofilia<\/em>, a new eight-part ecology series that combines documentary and fiction storytelling.<\/p>\n

The program, which currently airs only in Argentina through the public television network Canal Encuentro, will be seen across Latin America on Smithsonian Channel in November. This launch also marks the start of a co-production partnership between Smithsonian Channel, Canal Encuentro and Cont.ar.<\/p>\n

Filmed in locations throughout Argentina, Clorofilia<\/em> showcases images of the country’s ecosystem. The program stars Brazilian-Argentine actress Ail\u00edn Salas.<\/p>\n

Each of the eight 30-minute episodes is a different story and a new journey through the natural settings of Argentina that will reveal the survival strategies of different species and their profound effect on the planet\u2019s well-being. The program leads viewers to discover the incredible world of plants and the complexity and diversity of Argentinian \ufb02ora, with amazing stories that will show their past, present and future role in our society.<\/p>\n

Clorofilia<\/em> is a production of Canal Encuentro, Cont.ar and Planta Alta, directed by Andr\u00e9s Sehinkman and written by Jonathan Barg. The program, which features a musical score by Paloma del Cerro, was nominated for the Japan Prize 2019.<\/p>\n

Ail\u00edn Salas has a mesmerizing presence and the filmmakers bring a truly imaginative cinematic approach to documentary, drawing upon the style and storytelling of the movies, ranging from film noir to thriller to romantic comedy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThis is a critical time for our planet, with thousands of acres of forests being lost to natural disasters and man-made factors across the world; so, it is more important than ever to tell the story of diversity and conservation of our natural resources in a way that is engaging and inspiring and that\u2019s what Clorofilia<\/em> achieves.
