It combines planetary research and footage captured by orbiters, landers and rovers with CGI imagery to provide a close-up look at unimaginable sights across the solar system. The miniseries also features interviews with leading scientists and experts in the field.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Planets<\/em> will air on Wednesdays, July 24 through August 14, as part of the PBS Summer of Space. It will be available for streaming on all station-branded PBS platforms, including PBS.org and the PBS Video app, which is available on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast. Further, PBS station members can view episodes via Passport.<\/p>\n<p>Bill Gardner, VP of programming and development for PBS, said: &#8220;We are incredibly excited that <em>NOVA<\/em> is bringing <em>The Planets<\/em> to our viewers. This innovative cinematic approach to science storytelling, combined with the very latest in scientific context and insight, is exactly what the multiyear co-production partnership between PBS and the BBC is designed to achieve. We look forward to continuing to innovate together and bringing the absolute best in science storytelling to our audiences across the globe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Chris Schmidt, executive producer for <em>NOVA<\/em>, added: &#8220;This is a drama played out on a cosmic scale. In five gripping stories, we journey through each planet&#8217;s past and present, weaving through plot twists as they make their way through time and space. And, using the latest scientific research, we look forward billions of years at what the future might hold for these faraway worlds\u2014and ask questions about the fate of our own planet: Earth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Cohen, executive producer and head of BBC Studios Science Unit, said: &#8220;For the first time we are revealing the life story of the planets. It&#8217;s a story that covers four and a half billion years of history and reveals the extraordinary events that have shaped the eight worlds of the solar system, including our own.
