{"id":12798,"date":"2019-05-15T09:42:01","date_gmt":"2019-05-15T13:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvreal\/shining-light-employables\/"},"modified":"2019-05-15T17:48:22","modified_gmt":"2019-05-15T21:48:22","slug":"shining-a-light-on-the-employables","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvreal\/shining-a-light-on-the-employables\/","title":{"rendered":"Shining a Light on The Employables"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Elaine Frontain Bryant, executive VP and head of programming at A&amp;E Network, talks to <\/em>TV Real<em> about A&amp;E\u2019s new eight-part docuseries, <\/em>The Employables<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Employables<\/em>, which premieres tonight at 10 p.m., follows job seekers with neurological conditions like autism and Tourette syndrome as they search for meaningful employment. \u201cWe wanted to shine a light on the stories of several people as they search for work in hopes that it will help bring awareness to the issue,\u201d Bryant says. \u201c<em>The Employables<\/em> illuminates the fact that embracing our differences is what makes us all stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each one-hour episode of the show sees participants harness the unique skillset that their condition brings them. Assisting them on their journey is an autism or Tourette syndrome specialist who guides them on their job hunt, identifying their strengths so they can find careers that they will excel in <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/newsletters.worldscreen.com\/tvreal\/img\/2019-05-14-JAMES---_DSC0071.jpg\" alt=\"***Image***\" width=\"275\" height=\"184\" \/>long-term. Each job seeker then sets out on a round of interviews with potential employers to find the perfect fit for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany have struggled for years to find fulfilling employment, so each episode offers excitement as we see them uncover their strengths and their journey towards meaningful work,\u201d continues Bryant, who also serves as an executive producer on the show. \u201cEach of their paths are different and we are excited for viewers to watch them unfold.\u201d The series also aims to shed light on the experiences of friends and family as they support the job seekers on their mission.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Employables <\/em>is based on an original format called <em>Employable Me<\/em>, which was produced by Optomen Productions, an all3media company, for the BBC and is distributed by all3media international. \u201cWe made some minor changes in the storytelling style\u2014showing a bit more action and a bit faster paced\u2014so that the show would speak to an American audience, but we kept the essence of the original format the same,\u201d Bryant says of the adaptation.<\/p>\n<p>The series is the latest of A&amp;E\u2019s program offerings that focuses on positively embracing people\u2019s differences, coming on the heels of the Emmy-winning series <em>Born This Way<\/em>, which highlights the abilities of individuals with Down syndrome.
