Investigation Discovery (ID) has lined up a two-hour special about Son of Sam, one of New York\u2019s most infamous serial killers, to mark the 40th anniversary of his capture.<\/p>\n

Son of Sam: The Hunt for a Killer<\/em> will debut on ID on August 5 at 9 p.m. The documentary will trace the parallel stories of serial killer David Berkowitz\u2019s victims and the detectives who worked to catch him. The special will use first-person testimony and archival footage to retell the events. Before he was captured, Son of Sam left six dead and seven seriously wounded. Additional content will be available on ID\u2019s TV Everywhere app, ID GO, and companion articles will be accessible via its crime news blog, Crimefeed.com.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe mass hysteria that descended upon New York during 1976 and \u201977 is now approaching its 40-year anniversary, but feels like just yesterday to New Yorkers who lived through this terrifying time,\u201d said Henry Schleiff, the group president of Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel and Destination America. \u201cNow, in a historical retrospective, Investigation Discovery relives this tragic mark in New York\u2019s storied history from those who encountered and hunted the madman, especially the investigators who worked tirelessly to bring justice to the city, and the intrepid reporters who played an influential role in his capture.\u201d<\/p>\n
