Netflix has partnered with the Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematogr\u00e1ficas (AMACC) to create the COVID-19 Support Fund for the Motion Picture and Audiovisual Industry, aimed at supporting more than 1,000 workers in the sector.<\/p>\n

The donation, equivalent to $25 million pesos ($1.05 million), will be managed by the Academy and awarded to workers most affected by production cancellations in Mexico, such as assistants, coordinators, technicians and operators from the different production departments: filming, sound, art, makeup, wardrobe, on-location and transportation among others, who mostly charge per week or per project.<\/p>\n

M\u00f3nica Lozano, president of AMACC, commented: \u201cTechnical and manual workers are the backbone of the film and audiovisual industry. We hope that by working together we can support them in these difficult times. Netflix\u2019s commitment to this fund is most welcome and we hope other players in the industry can contribute. We have already called on them to expand support to benefit more workers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Francisco Ramos, VP of original content for Latin America at Netflix, added: \u201cThe alliance with AMACC is essential to help workers in the industry that make productions in Mexico possible and we want to be with them in these difficult times. We thank the Academy for its collaboration and commitment to this initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month Netflix announced the creation of a $100 million fund to support the creative community around the world impacted by the pandemic.
