MIP Cancun’s conference\u00a0program is set to feature several Latin American content heavyweights, including the team behind the eight-episode historical drama\u00a0Hern\u00e1n<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Hern\u00e1n<\/em>, a Mexican-Spanish co-production, will be presented during a MIP Cancun case study featuring Fidela Navarro, CEO of Dopamine; Julian de Tavira, showrunner (Mexico); Miguel Brailovsky, senior VP of programming and production at HISTORY Latin America; and Curro Royo, showrunner (Spain). During this session, Royo and de Tavira will elaborate on the joys and complexities behind tackling a story of such magnitude and historical significance, while Brailovsky and Navarro will share their experiences in forging an ambitious multiplatform deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cUntil Hern\u00e1n<\/em>, we have never had a historical drama that so solidly combines this level of production values in Latin America with such controversial historical views and a very high degree of local relevance for our region. There will undoubtedly be a before and after Hern\u00e1n<\/em>,\u201d said Brailovsky.<\/p>\n

\u201cHern\u00e1n<\/em> is a challenge in terms of creativity, history, production, business model, and ultimately, the Latin American industry,\u201d said Navarro. \u201cWe have taken on the risk of breaking the glass ceiling. Only then can we show that here we can make content of this level, and that we can compete in the international arena.\u201d<\/p>\n

MIP Cancun\u2019s conference program will welcome Erik Barmack, founder and CEO of Wild Sheep Content and the former head of Netflix international originals. After nearly a decade at Netflix, where he spearheaded the development of over 100 productions including global hits such as La Casa de Papel<\/em>, Club de Cuervos<\/em> and Elite<\/em>, Barmack\u2019s new venture Wild Sheep Content is set to produce a slate of projects with producers in Spain, Brazil, India and the Netherlands. He has already sold projects to multiple global platforms in the U.S., France, Brazil, Scandinavia and Turkey.<\/p>\n

During the course of this session, Barmack will discuss best practices in production and the value of passionate storytelling. He will also share his views on how to identify local stories with global appeal, as well as working with creatives across the globe.<\/p>\n

MIP Cancun participants will also meet top industry leaders as part of the \u201cIn Conversation With\u2026\u201d sessions, during which they will hear insights and business advice. Speakers so far confirmed include Marcelo Tamburri, VP of scripted development at Turner Latin America and Joanna Lombardi, head of fiction latinoamerica at Movistar.<\/p>\n
