NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises has acquired the Argentina-based boutique producer Underground Producciones, led by Sebastian Ortega.<\/p>\n
The wholly-owned subsidiary will become an extension of the Telemundo Global Studios, bolstering its growth and premium-content production capabilities for prime time and digital platforms.<\/p>\n
Ortega launched his career in 2001 at Argentinean broadcaster Telefe and was later in charge of artistic direction at Ideas del Sur. He founded Underground Producciones in 2005, and the company produced such hits as Educando a Nina<\/em>, Graduados<\/em>, Historia de un Clan<\/em>, Lalola<\/em>, El Marginal<\/em> and the box-office success\u00a0El \u00c1ngel de Luis Ortega<\/em>, a co-production with Pedro Almod\u00f3var\u2019s El Deseo, Telefe and K&S Films.<\/p>\n \u201cAcquiring Underground Producciones is a strategic investment to help us meet the growing demand for high-quality, cutting-edge Spanish-language content in the U.S. and around the world,\u201d said Marcos Santana, president of Telemundo Global Studios. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to incorporate talent like Sebastian Ortega, who has led one of the most creative teams in the region and has been able to set the standard at a global level with extremely original ideas, into Telemundo Global Studios Development Committee.
