Good Pitch Miami is spotlighting eight documentary film projects featuring Latin American and Hispanic stories for the first time.<\/p>\n
The event is a collaboration between BRITDOC, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Ford Foundation JustFilms Initiative and Fusion Media Group (a division of Univision Communications Inc.). On June 20, the eight selected filmmaking teams will have the opportunity to forge new partnerships and collaborations with national and international foundations, NGOs, campaigners, philanthropists, policymakers, brands and media when they pitch their films before a forum designed to boost their impact on social justice. More than 370 participants will gather at the New World Center, including organizations from Mexico, Brazil, Honduras, Colombia, Bolivia, New Zealand, Australia, India, Nigeria, the U.K., the Netherlands and Canada.<\/p>\n
The film lineup will include 500 Years<\/em> (directed by Pamela Yates, U.S.), The Age of Water<\/em> (directed by Isabel Alcantara, Mexico), Away from Meaning<\/em> (directed by Olivia Luengas, Mexico), Impeachment<\/em> (directed by Petra Costa, Brazil), Madidi<\/em> (directed by Elizabeth Unger, U.S.), The Negotiators<\/em> (directed by Margarita Martinez, Colombia), The Pushouts<\/em> (directed by Katie Galloway and Dawn Valadez, U.S.) and Unaccompanied Children<\/em> (directed by Alexandra Codina, U.S.).<\/p>\n \u201cSupporting content that embodies the values of the new, rising American mainstream and highlights important, often untold, stories from the communities we serve is not only inspiring, it can change the world,\u201d said Chad Boettcher, the senior VP of social impact at Univision Communications and managing director of Rise Up.<\/p>\n \u201cGood Pitch Miami turns a focus to the richness of stories from across Latin America, drawing together a room of uncommon diversity and power,\u201d said Cara Mertes, head of JustFilms Initiative at the Ford Foundation. \u201cConnecting influencers and leaders to storytellers and issues, the filmmakers of Good Pitch show how documentary itself is a community act which can build a will to see greater justice across seemingly insurmountable divides.
