ZAG Preps Hybrid CGI & Live-Action Kids’ Series

GLENDALE: ZAG is partnering with family-entertainment film company 1492 Pictures, master toy group Playmates Toys and French producer Method Animation on a new hybrid CGI and live-action kids’ show under its Zag Heroez label.

The as-yet-untitled 52×11-minute hybrid series has received commissioning support from French TV network France Télévisions. The show is slated for global TV broadcast in spring 2018, with a comprehensive toy and licensing program targeted for a fall 2018 rollout.

“This generation of kids is ready for a new hybrid show that bridges the gap between the reality of live action and the fantasy of the CGI world,” said Jeremy Zag, CEO of ZAG. “With these fantastic partners, we have pulled together the best of each world to produce this unique and revolutionary content.”

“We like to pull inspiration from the unlimited reach of children’s imaginations,” added Jared Wolfson, the president of franchise integration and business development at ZAG. “In this visually stunning hybrid execution, we will deliver action, adventure and comedy in a way that will resonate with kids around the world. Paired with organic integration of meaningful themes, heroic characters, powerful wish fulfillment and aspirational rituals, we’ve positioned this new IP for long-term sustainability and extension into various digital platforms and robust licensing programs.”

“With our experience in live-action storytelling and the incredible quality of animation ZAG puts on screen, this is a dream project,” commented Michael Barnathan, the president of 1492 Pictures. “And having the deep-seated knowledge Playmates brings to the table, in addition to the support of Method, we’re positioned for great success.”

“ZAG has proven to deliver high-quality animated properties that resonate on the global stage,” remarked Thomas Chan, CEO of Playmates Toys. “We’re honored to extend our vast history in designing, developing and executing high-quality toy lines to these best-in-class partners on this great new property.”

“We have a long history producing content based on major brands and IP,” said Aton Soumache, the president of Method Animation. “Joining our production capabilities with ZAG’s knack for creating and building global kids’ and family franchises, 1492’s tremendous film-making expertise and Playmates’s legendary experience in the toy business establishes a very strong platform from which to launch this property.”
