BURBANK: Production has begun on the animated series Big Hero 6<\/em>, based on the Academy Award-winning feature film of the same name, and slated to premiere on Disney XD in 2017.<\/p>\n

Produced by Disney Television Animation, the series Big Hero 6<\/em> picks up where the Marvel-inspired film left off, continuing the adventures of 14-year-old tech genius Hiro and his compassionate, cutting-edge robot Baymax. The series will be executive produced by Emmy Award-winning producers Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, creators and executive producers of the hit Disney Channel series Kim Possible<\/em>. Nick Filippi, who also worked on Kim Possible<\/em>, will serve as executive producer and supervising director.<\/p>\n

In the series, Hiro and Baymax are also joined by control freak Wasabi, scientist Honey Lemon, fan-boy Fred and no-nonsense Go Go, who together form the legendary superhero team, Big Hero 6. Hiro will face daunting academic challenges and the social trials of being the little man on campus as the new prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. When not at school, the heroes must protect the city from scientifically enhanced villains.<\/p>\n
