The Japanese animation\u00a0was Mamoru Hosoda&#8217;s non-franchise movie debut as a director. Funimation had already acquired the follow-up films <em>Summer Wars<\/em>, <em>Wolf Children<\/em> and <em>The Boy and the Beast<\/em>.
