Ormhildur the Brave<\/em>, a new series from Compass Films that is being co-produced with a variety of European public broadcasters, has set its voice cast.<\/p>\n

An\u00edta Briem (Journey to the Center of the Earth<\/em>, The Tudors<\/em>) and her 11-year-old daughter M\u00eda Paraskevopoulou will voice the lead roles. The latter will star as the titular character, a young girl with no memory of her past who lives in the State Research Department of Magic, the only remaining institution after a great flood.<\/p>\n

There, they research how to fend off magical creatures. But Ormhildur doesn\u2019t mind most magical creatures, and they mostly love her back.<\/p>\n

Briem will voices Brunhild, the righteous and fiercely loyal leader of Hilly Isle. She hates magic and the creatures too and is distrustful of anyone casting spells. When she is kidnapped and thrown into an adventure, she becomes a trusty partner and protector of Ormhildur.<\/p>\n

The mother-and-daughter duo will be joined by Constantine Paraskevopoulos, M\u00eda\u2019s father, who will perform the role of Vakur.<\/p>\n

Ormhildur the Brave<\/em> is set for release in early 2026. It is made by Compass Films in co-production with Animation Studio Iceland, Iceland\u2019s Projects and Poland\u2019s Letko. Also on board as co-producers are the public broadcasters NDR and KiKA in Germany, R\u00daV in Iceland, Svenska Yle in Finland, SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway and DR in Denmark.<\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoyed the process of Ormhildur the Brave<\/em> so much; it was amazing,\u201d M\u00eda said. \u201cIt was very fun to work with the crew of Ormhildur the Brave<\/em> and our very talented writer\/director of Ormhildur<\/em>. I think the kids out there should watch it because it\u2019s so fun and adventurous. Ormhildur the Brave<\/em> also has its serious moments, but it\u2019s mostly very funny and entertaining, especially when Ormhildur connects to animals, trolls and nature. My character on the way to find food, she finds a little Skoffin (an animal from Norse mythology). In the mythology, if you look into the eyes of a Skoffin, you face serious consequences. She discovers a bunch of secrets and falls into a bunch of adventures.\u201d<\/p>\n

Creator Thorey Mjallhvit said, \u201cI loved working with M\u00eda. She is such a professional despite her young age. She would show up having read the script and often with questions. She really wanted to understand who Ormhildur is and how she feels and reacts. And her interpretation of Ormhildur was amazing. She really created the perfect tone for the character. You can really tell that her parents are both actors and producers with years of experience. M\u00eda and I got along really well. There was a lot of laughing and having fun. Working with talented young people like her is such a privilege, and I know she has a bright future ahead of her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel so honored to take part in this magical animated adventure, not the least being able to be there from the start. Us actors recorded our performances with our incredible writer\/director Thorey Mjallhvit, as the animators were in their early stages, so the visuals developed with the performances. Thorey has a very special way of creating this very exciting world for children, without ever talking down to them, and I really love that.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, of course, what made this extra special was to see my little daughter M\u00eda take her first steps as an actor. M\u00eda voices Ormhildur in both English and Icelandic, and her father and I get to portray various supporting roles. And even though we both work in film, her playing this role really wasn\u2019t a case of nepotism but rather it was her that got her parents hired! Watching M\u00eda in the studio, I was just in awe of her natural talent and how well she was potraying subtle emotions through her voice.
