Sandwiched between two prominent events for the kids\u2019 business in the U.S. and Europe in the first half of the year, MIPTV\u2019s role in the calendar for the children\u2019s content community is not as crucial as it once was. But as Lucy Smith, director of MIPTV and MIPCOM Cannes, told reporters as the event came to a close, sustaining the market\u2019s importance to those in the business of buying and selling kids\u2019 IP is among her key priorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just met with the MIP\u00a0Kids\u00a0Buyers\u00a0Advisory Board,\u201d Smith noted. \u201cThey felt it was a very profitable market for them, and they had their diaries booked out. We had multiple exhibitors here selling their kids\u2019 content. We had the Future of Kids TV Summit with a packed-out audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith said she is working with the board\u2014which includes France T\u00e9l\u00e9visions\u2019 Tiphaine de Raguenel, Rai\u2019s Luca Milano, Paramount Global\u2019s Jules Borkent, Warner Bros. Discovery\u2019s Adina Pitt, Netflix\u2019s Janine Weigold and the BBC\u2019s Sarah Muller\u2014on strengthening the Future of Kids TV Summit held at the market. \u201cWe\u2019re making sure we involve the public-service broadcasters in Europe, where there\u2019s a lot of need to discuss more about the financing of kids\u2019 content.\u201d<\/p>\n

European animated content was undoubtedly in the spotlight last week. CAKE revealed it had partnered with the Polish-based producers Animoon and Letko for the new preschool series <\/a>Toru Superfox<\/em><\/a>. Sales were secured across multiple territories for the Toon2Tango and Mondo TV kids\u2019 series <\/a>Agent 203<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Superights landed a raft of deals for the preschool series <\/a>Go! Go! Cory Carson<\/em><\/a> after the show\u2019s first window on Netflix<\/a>. The animated series Transformers: EarthSpark<\/em><\/a> was licensed to, among other broadcasters, Gulli in France, Clan in Spain and Super! in Italy<\/a>. TVOkids ordered the new unscripted, live-action eco series <\/a>Green Squad<\/em><\/a> from Apartment 11 Productions. And reflecting the opportunities for companies with significant catalogs, the Amazon Prime Video channel Pash, operated by Studio 100 Media and ZDF Studios, expanded its reach to Poland and France<\/a>.<\/p>\n
