Dandelooo\u2019s partner studio Ooolala has doubled down on its sustainability efforts following the reveal that its 2022 carbon footprint was a low 51 tons.<\/p>\n
Ooolala has committed to lowering its footprint by 30 percent more through a variety of actions, including a mobility plan to help employees use sustainable modes of transportation. The studio is able to monitor and adapt its carbon consumption based on real-time measurements from its internally developed technology ecooo.<\/p>\n
The technology was developed with the support of France 2030 and the CNC\u2019s technical industry funding. \u201cWe wanted to be able to understand how our choices and actions are actually impacting and to be able to make choices based on that knowledge,\u201d said Jean Baptiste Wery, CEO. \u201cecooo opens up an immense field of exploration that we are just starting to explore.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to its mobility plan, Ooolala is exploring additional IT automations such as workstation and server auto activation, a partnership with an organic waste collection organization and a partnership with a computer and office equipment second-life eco workshop.<\/p>\n
Baptiste Wery credits Ooolala\u2019s current carbon footprint with its 2D specialization. \u201c2D animation is a real asset to help the industry reduce its impact,\u201d he said. \u201cIt uses very little energy compared to 3D and VFX, which are very demanding in terms of rendering power and cooling systems.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has always been of high importance for my partner Emmanu\u00e8le P\u00e9try and I as animation producers to bring to the market productions that are respectful of the environment,\u201d Baptiste Wery added. \u201cWhen building our studio, we thought it was a unique opportunity to do so. [2022\u2019s] figures are a major achievement, as they confirm how virtuous the studio already is. To give a comparison, all our facilities and equipment represent less than the emissions of a U.S. citizen in a year.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOoolala and Dandelooo plan to continue their efforts in the coming years as there are still many areas to explore,\u201d he continued. \u201cWith 51 tons of CO2 in 2022, we believe we can still improve our footprint by 30 percent by additional actions and including employees in the process to find solutions together. The association La Cartouch’verte, of which we are a member, is also taking a very virtuous approach by sharing actions with all the studios at the Cartoucherie, and we are also working with Valence Romans Agglo, which owns the building, to improve its performance. An energy audit is already underway.\u201d<\/p>\n
Engineering and consulting firm Workflowers conducted Ooolala\u2019s 2022 carbon footprint measure.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe positive results show the seriousness of Ooolala\u2019s approach in implementing good environmental practices for the animation sector,\u201d said C\u00e9dric Lejeune, CEO of Workflowers. \u201cThe care taken, in particular, with the management of hot\/cold air flows in the machine room and the choice of workstation configurations has made it possible to considerably reduce the emissions associated with the infrastructure.
