{"id":22924,"date":"2022-05-06T10:13:13","date_gmt":"2022-05-06T14:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvkids\/disney-tv-animation-producing-cookies-milk-adaptation\/"},"modified":"2022-05-06T10:49:15","modified_gmt":"2022-05-06T14:49:15","slug":"disney-tv-animation-producing-cookies-milk-adaptation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvkids\/disney-tv-animation-producing-cookies-milk-adaptation\/","title":{"rendered":"Disney TV Animation Producing Cookies &amp; Milk Adaptation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An animated adaptation of Shawn Amos\u2019s forthcoming semi-autobiographical novel <em>Cookies &amp; Milk<\/em> is in development at Disney Television Animation.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by Blues musician Amos\u2019s own childhood as the son of Wallace \u201cWally\u201d Amos, Jr., founder of the Famous Amos chocolate chip cookie brand, the series will follow the summer adventures of a harmonica-playing middle schooler as he begrudgingly helps his father open the world\u2019s first cookie shop in 1970s Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p>Executive producers for the series are Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland of Cinema Gypsy Productions (<em>black-ish<\/em>, upcoming <em>Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur<\/em>); Jesse Murphy and James Sears Bryant of Jesse James Films; and Shawn Amos. Brian Egeston (<em>The Game<\/em>, upcoming <em>On A Wing and A Prayer<\/em>) is set as co-executive producer and story editor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s an absolute coup to bring Shawn Amos\u2019s heartfelt, humorous book to Disney television screens, and with the guiding vision, credibility and track record of our Cinema Gypsy and Jesse James Films creative team, we&#8217;re looking forward to telling this authentic and relatable story about belonging, self-acceptance and forgiveness,\u201d said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to be collaborating with Shawn Amos, Ayo Davis and the talented team at Disney Branded Television,\u201d added Cinema Gypsy\u2019s Fishburne and Sugland. \u201cShawn&#8217;s semi-autobiographical novel, <em>Cookies &amp; Milk<\/em>, is partially based on his own experiences growing up as the son of Wally \u2018Famous\u2019 Amos. This humorous and heartwarming exploration of summer fun and friendship seen through the eyes of a young Black boy being raised by his divorced father is full of joy, self-discovery and a whole lot of unconditional love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so excited to have found the right home for this show with Disney Television Animation, Laurence and Helen,\u201d commented Jesse James Films\u2019 Murphy and Sears Bryant. \u201cShawn has created such a beautiful reimagining of his childhood in a narrative that we hope will universally connect with audiences on and off the page.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Amos said, \u201cWhat a dream to see this Black kid from Hollywood become a Disney character.
