{"id":17753,"date":"2019-12-10T10:04:03","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T15:04:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev2.worldscreen.com\/tvkids\/sony-pictures-television-buys-silvergate\/"},"modified":"2019-12-10T10:27:28","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T15:27:28","slug":"sony-pictures-television-buys-silvergate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvkids\/sony-pictures-television-buys-silvergate\/","title":{"rendered":"Sony Pictures Television Buys Silvergate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sony Pictures Television (SPT) is acquiring <em>Octonauts<\/em> producer Silvergate Media, which focuses on developing, producing and licensing children\u2019s animation.<\/p>\n<p>Under the deal, Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), through a wholly-owned subsidiary, has acquired 100 percent of Silvergate Topco Limited, whose assets include Silvergate\u2019s 49 percent interest in a joint venture with Beijing-based Wanda Group, which holds the rights to <em>Octonauts<\/em>. Additionally, SPE has acquired a minority stake in Silvergate BP Bidco Limited, which produces the<em> Peter Rabbit<\/em> television series and will continue to be majority-owned by Waheed Alli. The total purchase price was approximately $195 million.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Hopkins, chairman of Sony Pictures Television, said, \u201cWe are excited to extend our capabilities and gain valuable children\u2019s IP to bolster our entry into the kids\u2019 space. Silvergate gives us a great building block to expand into this genre in a meaningful way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alli said, \u201cWe are all excited about joining SPT and the creative teams within the SPT family. 2020 will see a new and strong development slate coming to market with some exciting new series in the pipeline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the team at Silvergate,\u201d said Will Wynperle, partner at Shamrock. \u201cOver the past several years, the company has significantly grown its portfolio of brands, many of which can be seen on a global basis.
