Reed MIDEM enhanced the Junior@MIPTV strand this year, targeting the some 1,200 kids\u2019 production and distribution companies that attend the market.<\/em><\/p>\n

Among the major highlights was the fifth edition of the International Emmy Kids Awards, celebrating excellence in children\u2019s programming. Organized by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, with presenting partners Shaw Rocket Fund, WDR mediagroup,\u00a0TV Kids<\/em>, EY and Junior@MIPTV, the awards show was held in Cannes for the second time. At a ceremony at the Martinez on Tuesday night,\u00a0programs from Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands and the U.K. scored wins<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The awards were presented by a variety of TV and digital personalities and mascots, including American actress and YouTube sensation Jenn McAllister (jennxpenn), Quebec TV star\/producer Marc Labr\u00e8che (Le Coeur a Ses Raisons<\/em>), German preschool character Die Maus from WDR\u2019s\u00a0The Program with The Mouse<\/em>\u00a0co-presenting with actress and YouTuber Joyce Ilg from WDR\u2019s kids\u2019 series\u00a0Arman\u2019s Secret<\/em>\u00a0and Miss Supranational 2016 Srinidhi Shetty from India, and British comedian Paul Taylor (#Franglais<\/em>). More than 250 international industry executives attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n

There were also several conferences targeted at the kids\u2019 community throughout the week, exploring such issues as the future of children\u2019s content, online strategies, the impact of VR and more. MIPTV also hosted a pitching session for digital short-form kids\u2019 content.<\/p>\n

Digital does certainly continue to transform the kids\u2019 sector, creating plenty of new opportunities for content owners.\u00a0GO-N Productions, for example, licensed the new-media rights<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>for\u00a0Simon<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Zip Zip<\/em>\u00a0to Jetsen Huashi Wangju Kids in China.<\/p>\n

In other MIPTV deal news,\u00a0Cleo & Cuquin<\/em>, which comes from \u00c1nima Kitchent and Televisa,\u00a0is set to debut on Discovery Kids in Latin America this fall<\/a><\/strong>. The channel, which is marking its 20th anniversary,\u00a0also inked development deals with producers<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0from the region and worldwide as it bolsters its programming slate.<\/p>\n

Studio 100 clinched a pact with\u00a0NRK Super in Norway for season three<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of the live-action series\u00a0Ghost Rockers<\/em>. Another live-action tween drama,\u00a0Find Me in Paris<\/em>, was sold into Australia, Italy and Belgium<\/a><\/strong>, among other markets. In the U.S., Cartoon Network bought DHX Media\u2019s\u00a0Mega Man<\/em>. The channel\u2019s own signature originals\u00a0The Powerpuff Girls<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Ben 10<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, meanwhile, picked up slots in Europe and Asia courtesy of Turner International\u2019s distribution team.<\/p>\n
