{"id":11307,"date":"2016-11-17T09:00:36","date_gmt":"2016-11-17T14:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvkids\/worldscreen.com\/"},"modified":"2016-11-17T13:56:00","modified_gmt":"2016-11-17T18:56:00","slug":"bafta-special-award-for-u-k-animator-peter-western","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldscreen.com\/tvkids\/bafta-special-award-for-u-k-animator-peter-western\/","title":{"rendered":"U.K. Animator Peter Western Scores BAFTA Special Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has revealed that Peter Western, a U.K. animator and storyboard artist, will receive\u00a0the\u00a0Special Award at this year&#8217;s British Academy Children&#8217;s Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Over his 40-year career, Western&#8217;s designs have resulted in popular animated characters from such film and TV\u00a0productions as <em>Who Framed Roger Rabbit<\/em>, <em>Fungus the Bogeyman<\/em>, <em>Bing<\/em>, <em>Horrid Henry<\/em>, <em>American Tail 2: Fievel Goes West<\/em>, <em>The Village<\/em>, <em>The Snowman and the Snowdog<\/em>, <em>Space Jam<\/em> and <em>Quest for Camelot<\/em>. He\u00a0will receive the\u00a0award, which recognizes his contribution to animation, during the ceremony on November 20 at London&#8217;s\u00a0Roundhouse.<\/p>\n<p>Helen Blakeman, chair of the BAFTA Children\u2019s committee, said: \u201cPeter has a wealth of experience, gained from a passion and dedication to his craft as a storyboard artist. He continues to leave a mark on the industry by supporting the next generation of artists and animators, passing on his skill and unique insights through lectures and talks. His contribution to children\u2019s television is outstanding. Peter is more than deserving of this year\u2019s Special Award.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Western added: \u201cI am delighted to receive the BAFTA Special Award. I must say that I\u2019ve had the pleasure of working as part of some wonderful teams on some great projects\u2014animations really are a team effort. I\u2019d like to dedicate this award to the people I have collaborated with and to those who gave me the opportunities to make my contribution to this industry.
