MELBOURNE: Filming has kicked off on Boxwars<\/em>, a new\u00a0show\u00a0being developed\u00a0with assistance from\u00a0Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) that spotlights live mock battles featuring cardboard armor.<\/p>\n

The Boxwars concept\u00a0was conceived\u00a0in 2003, when a few individuals decided to\u00a0build battle armor with cardboard and then held events to destroy them. Executive producer Bruce Kane is developing the popular pastime into a half-hour series, which will see teams of children complete\u00a0construction challenges under time constraints using a\u00a0limited\u00a0supply of cardboard. The participants will then\u00a0test their creations to see whether or not they can function like their real-life equivalents.<\/p>\n

The pilot episode of Boxwars<\/em> was directed by Nick Campbell and filmed at Princes Hill Primary School in Melbourne last week. In it, teams were tasked with building a Roman chariot with the ability\u00a0to race three laps around a track and one stunt lap. The chariots were evaluated\u00a0based on engineering strength, visual artistry and comedic value. The show will be pitched to local and international broadcasters, with the hope to have a series on air\u00a0in 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
