Marley and the Family Band Adaptation in the Works

Lion Forge Animation (Hair Love), Polygram Entertainment and Tuff Gong Collective are set to adapt the picture book Marley and the Family Band for the screen.

Written by Bob Marley’s daughter Cedella Marley, Marley and the Family Band celebrates music, love and family, following a young girl who moves to a new country. The book was inspired by Cedella’s own childhood and famous father.

The animated series adaptation will be directed by Lion Forge Animation Executive Creative Director Saxton Moore. Lion Forge’s David Steward II, founder and CEO, and Jimmy Thomas are executive producing.

The series is being developed and produced by Lion Forge, Universal Music Group’s (UMG) Polygram Entertainment and the joint venture between Cedella and UMG, Tuff Gong Collective.

“Tuff Gong Collective was formed to be a creative platform to introduce my father’s art and music to new generations, and we’re thrilled to work with Lion Forge and Polygram to bring Marley and the Family Band to life through this new animation series,” said Cedella. “This series is meant to reach and inspire creativity and community, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with the world.”

Steward said, “It’s a sincere pleasure to work with Cedella and the Polygram team to build off such beautiful storytelling and reimagine as an animated series. Cedella’s stories speak to everything we strive to bring to life in our productions, and the iconic stature of the Marley name and legacy carries weight that translates into global reach.”
