MarcoPolo Learning is setting up its new global headquarters in London this month following a major financing round and partnership with Boat Rocker Media and its family of companies, as well as venture capital firm Seedcamp.

More than 30 new hires are expected to be added with the opening of the headquarters in London. The anticipated hires will contribute to animation, engineering and product development. MarcoPolo Learning’s recent partnership with Boat Rocker Media will see the production of original premium animated long-form video content in the coming months.

MarcoPolo Learning recently announced more than $8.5 million in funding from Boat Rocker Media and a range of technology investors from around the world. MarcoPolo Learning mobile apps are currently used by more than 5 million children in 150-plus countries, including the U.S., China, Russia, the U.K. and Japan.

“The U.K. has made it very attractive for production studios to do work in the country,” said Justin Hsu, the CEO of MarcoPolo. “By opening our headquarters in London we’re able to tap into a vibrant creative talent market at an attractive cost versus other creative talent markets. This will help fuel our recent partnership with Boat Rocker Media and help us produce amazing animated content.”

“While uncertainty regarding Brexit has understandably caused a number of other startups to consider leaving London, for us it is hard to deny the three ‘T’s’ that London has to offer: talent, tax incentives for creative companies like ours, and time-zone advantages when it comes to selecting a global headquarters,” added Nazar Yasin, MarcoPolo’s executive chairman.
