Video Interview: Kindergarten: The Musical’s Creator Michelle Lewis

Just in time for back-to-school, the brand-new series Kindergarten: The Musical is set to premiere on Disney Jr. and Disney Channel on September 3, with an initial batch of ten episodes to become available on Disney+ the next day. The series, which follows 5-year-old Berti and her new friends as they navigate the experiences that come with starting school for the first time, features an array of Broadway-style song and dance numbers in each episode and a mix of 3D and 2D animation. The songs are written by Michelle Lewis, Kay Hanley and Dan Petty, the team behind the original music in Doc McStuffins, along with Tears for Fears’ Charlton Pettus.

In this interview, Lewis, creator and executive producer of Kindergarten: The Musical, speaks with TV Kids Weekly about what inspired the series, the journey to getting new IP across the finish line in today’s market and the art of grabbing children’s attention by respecting their intelligence and musical tastes.
