Disney Launches New Frozen Tale

BURBANK: Disney is expanding the Frozen franchise with a series of animated shorts from The LEGO Group, a book collection and digital extensions.

The new original story, Frozen Northern Lights, will follow Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven on their adventure to restore the glimmer of the Northern Lights. The original voice cast from the 2013 film is set to reprise their roles in four new animated shorts and a full compilation reimagined by The LEGO Group that is slated to air on Disney Channel and digital platforms this fall.

Disney is introducing the new story next month with the launch of a book published by Random House titled Disney Frozen Northern Lights: Journey to the Lights. The book will launch ahead of an extended book collection that will introduce a new protagonist named Little Rock. Disney will also update its Frozen-themed website with new activities related to the original story, and is launching a Frozen-inspired Instagram account.

“Natural phenomenon meets cultural phenomenon in this all-new story, Frozen Northern Lights,” said Andrew Sugerman, the executive VP of Disney Publishing Worldwide. “We’re excited to share this new adventure and offer fans great new ways to connect with their favorite characters thanks to a host of related books, digital games and activities.”

In 2013, Frozen became the highest-grossing animated feature ever released, generating more than $1.27 billion at the global box office. The movie will make its television debut this holiday season on ABC in the U.S.
