Disney Channel Sets Cast for Upside-Down Magic

The Disney Channel Original Movie Upside-Down Magic has cast newcomer Izabela Rose and Siena Agudong (No Good Nick) in the lead roles.

Based on The New York Times best-selling fantasy-fiction children’s books of the same name, Upside-Down Magic will center on Nory Boxwood (Rose), a 13-year-old who learns that she can morph into animals, and her best friend and Sage Academy for Magical Studies classmate Reina Carvajal (Agudong), who can manipulate flames.

Upside-Down Magic, which is slated to air next summer, will also star Vicki Lewis (Finding Nemo, Newsradio), Kyle Howard (My Boys), Elie Samouhi (Bizaardvark), Alison Fernandez (Once Upon a Time) and Max Torina (Raven’s Home) among others. Suzanne Farwell and Susan Cartsonis will executive produce with Joe Nussbaum, who also serves as director. Nick Pustay and Josh Cagan penned the teleplay for Upside-Down Magic based on the book series from Sarah Mlynowski, Lauren Myracle and Emily Jenkins.

Lauren Kisilevsky, VP of original movies for Disney Channels Worldwide, said: “We cannot wait for Disney Channel viewers to meet Nory, a funny, charismatic and optimistic heroine whose unwavering belief that her unusual talents, along with those of her wonky friends, are just as valuable as those of her peers. At the heart of our story is Nory and Reina’s friendship, in which they help each other learn that what makes them different makes them special.”
