Channel 5 Orders Kids’ Fact-Ent Environmental Series

Channel 5 has greenlit Go Green with the Grimwades, an influencer-led environmental series, for the multiplatform preschool strand Milkshake!

The series will encourage young audiences to become more aware of their impact on the environment and what they can do at home to make small positive changes. The series will follow the YouTube-famous Grimwades—consisting of mom, dad and their six home-schooled children—as they accept challenges to cut waste and protect the planet, inspired by the themes of reduce, recycle, repair, reuse and refuse. Topics will include plastic awareness, using water efficiently, connecting with nature, reusing clothes and the benefits of a zero-waste household. Soft learning will be embedded into the show, including numeracy, literacy and STEM.

Produced by Doc Hearts, the 10×10-minute series has been commissioned with support from the government-funded Young Audiences Content Fund (YACF), through the BFI.

Louise Bucknole, VP of kids’ programming at ViacomCBS Networks UK, said: “Go Green with the Grimwades is the perfect new addition to our growing pipeline of content, complementing our wide and varied slate, which now also includes drama and live-action entertainment formats. The series will help our viewers learn to be more environmentally-conscious, starting from within their own homes, with fun ideas they can easily adopt. As a family who is already adored by so many people on YouTube, the Grimwades are very relatable and accessible role models for our young pre-school audience, and we’re delighted to welcome them to Milkshake!”

Andy Mundy-Castle, executive producer and managing director of Doc Hearts, said: “We’re so pleased to make this timely and important show for Milkshake! who have been very enthusiastic and supportive. The Grimwade family has a fantastic attitude to life and having monitored their rise online it only felt like a matter of time before they were on our TV screens.”
