CBBC has acquired Girls of Olympus, based on the books by Elena Kedros, from Serious Kids.

Produced by The Animation Band and Rai Ragazzi, the series tells the story of three girls who discover their true identities as reincarnations of Athena, Aphrodite and Artemis. It is set to air on CBBC this summer.

“With more books to draw inspiration from, we are starting development of a second series to take our heroines to all new levels of fun and adventure,” said Marco Marcolini, CEO of The Animation Band.

“We are delighted to close this deal with CBBC,” said Genevieve Dexter, founder and CEO of Serious Kids. “Rai Gulp is currently airing Girls of Olympus three times a day, where it is rating over twice the channel’s average market share for those time slots. The highest ratings are for 8- to 14-year-olds, and the gender split is 60/40, girls to boys. We are confident this success will carry over to U.K. audiences and be a hit show on CBBC and BBC iPlayer too.”
