LONDON: Azoomee has picked up 90 hours of BBC titles, including Charlie and Lola and The Next Step, as part of a 12-month agreement.

In addition to The Next Step and Charlie and Lola, Azoomee licensed the sketch comedy Horrible Histories, the live-action family drama Katie Morag, the educational show Nina and the Neurons and the documentary series Little Human Planet. Deadly 60, which follows zoologist Steve Backshall as he looks for the 60 deadliest animals in the world, will also be part of Azoomee’s offering from the BBC.

Azoomee is a digital entertainment service for kids in primary school. It offers TV shows, games, audiobooks, an art studio and messaging in one safe app. Azoomee launched in the U.K. in July 2016 and works on any mobile device.

“We are incredibly excited to add BBC’s award-winning shows to Azoomee’s rapidly growing content library,” said Estelle Lloyd, co-founder of Azoomee. “These shows explore a wide range of important values, which fit perfectly with our overall mission to provide entertainment that is good for children. The BBC content has recently been made available on the app and is already proving extremely popular with our young audience; Charlie and Lola is currently the most-watched show on Azoomee. We are looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship with the BBC.”

Jonathan Newman, head of business development at BBC Worldwide, commented, “We are delighted to be partnering with Azoomee and bringing the best of BBC Children’s content to their customers. We look forward to working with them in the coming months and hopefully building on our relationship in the longer term.”

Howard Litton, who advises Azoomee on content acquisitions, added, “Acquiring this blue-chip BBC kids’ content is an exciting and crucial step in cementing Azoomee’s already growing reputation as a ‘good for you’ quality platform for children in the U.K.”
