Sunita Uchil, the company\u2019s chief business officer for international ad sales, global syndication and production, says the initiative \u201chas been a natural evolution for us. We have been in the TV storytelling business for over 20 years now. We have a rich legacy of content creation and development.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/i6.cmail20.com\/ei\/r\/05\/0F5\/66F\/031012\/csimport\/2017-01-23-sunita-uchil_5.jpg\" alt=\"***Image***\" width=\"200\" height=\"183\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"8\" vspace=\"8\" \/>Our channels have been producing content for the discerning audience in our diverse and\u00a0fascinating country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the success at home, we are now looking at making the same formats available for a mainstream international audience,\u201d Uchil continues. \u201cAnd thus, the idea to create Z Format Factory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zee has already developed format bibles for some of its successful scripted and non-scripted shows, including\u00a0<em>Dance India Dance<\/em>, a reality competition show; the sitcom\u00a0<em>Hum Paanch<\/em>, known as\u00a0<em>Freaky Five<\/em>\u00a0internationally;\u00a0<em>Moksha<\/em>, a modernized version of an Indian game show from the 1990s based on Snakes and Ladders; and\u00a0<em>Love Thy Neighbor<\/em>.\u00a0Uchil calls the latter a \u201crib-tickling comedy about two distinctly different couples who in good humor flirt with each other\u2019s wives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company is also developing new formats for the international market, including\u00a0<em>Phantasmagoria<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The Eclipse Harvest<\/em>.\u00a0<em>Phantasmagoria\u00a0<\/em>features 12 surreal stories based on the zodiac signs, while<em>\u00a0The Eclipse Harvest<\/em>\u00a0is a\u00a0dark scripted story about two men who are born on either\u00a0side of the law. \u201cEach story has a twist sure to send a shiver down your spine,\u201d Uchil says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy with the\u00a0initial response we have\u00a0received,\u201d Uchil reports. \u201cThere\u2019s a market out there [that is] definitely ready to experiment with new ideas.\u00a0We expect our scripted shows to do well in Asia and Latin America.\u00a0Our newer formats with strong story lines are being received well in the Western markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Uchil believes Zee is a good home for the format concepts that are being generated by Z Format Factory. \u201cOur flair to adapt and create for different audiences makes us a good creative home to grow and develop formats,\u201d she says. \u201cStorytelling and entertaining on television is our business.\u00a0We operate over 20 successful channels churning [out] at least six hours of original content on a daily basis.\u201d Zee also has a presence in 171 countries around the world, with 35 international channels.\u00a0\u201cWe understand content and the needs of different age groups in varied geographies,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>As the year progresses, Uchil expects to receive more feedback regarding the company\u2019s formats. \u201cOur next steps will be defined by the\u00a0demand and expectations from the\u00a0market.
