NBC Pilots Game Show 5 Gold Rings

UNIVERSAL CITY: NBC has greenlit the game-show pilot 5 Gold Rings, which is based on a U.K. format from ITV Studios’ Possessed and Talpa.

The series will be produced by ITV Entertainment. Co-created by Possessed and Talpa, it is the first format jointly developed by the two companies. The game show is played on a large interactive LED floor. Players get five rings to answer questions over five levels, and while they work to answer questions correctly—matching rings and responses—the rings get progressively smaller. Viewers can also connect to the game via smartphone, with a mini-version of the LED floor and the questions.

David Eilenberg, the president of ITV Entertainment, said: “5 Gold Rings taps into so many of the reasons game shows continue to appeal to U.S. audiences. With mind-bending questions, big shiny-floor visuals and a ticking clock, this show offers a fantastic dose of fun, excitement and adrenaline for game show fans across the board.”

Maarten Meijs, the managing director of Talpa Global, added: “From the very start of developing the format together with Possessed into a truly connected format, we’ve believed in its global potential. The unique gameplay combined with impressive and unique visual questions is sure to appeal to the U.S. audience and we’re looking forward to working with ITV Entertainment and NBC to turn 5 Gold Rings into the new hit game show.”

Glenn Hugill, the managing director of Possessed, commented: “The unique gameplay of 5 Gold Rings requires pinpoint accuracy as well as critical thinking; creating an amazing arena-like atmosphere that’s part big-money game show and part sports. Best of all we have discovered that, across the world, everyone loves the out-and-out fun of the play along. NBC is the perfect home for truly big ideas and we are thrilled to be working with them to deliver what we all hope will be a hit show for everyone who loves to challenge themselves and their friends.”
