BBC Studios has entered a deal with Mediaset España’s Telecinco to bring Dancing with the Stars back to Spanish screens.

The format is set to return to Telecinco on January 13, five years after it last aired in the country. The Spanish treatment will be produced locally by Bulldog TV and hosted by TV presenter Jesús Vázquez and supermodel Valeria Mazza.

André Renaud, senior VP of global format sales at BBC Studios, said: “Spanish audiences love big entertainment, so I’m delighted to see the return of one of the world’s most popular and enduring entertainment brands, Dancing with the Stars, in its new home on Telecinco. The channel and production team are already working hard to ensure that its return will delight existing fans and bring in a whole new set of viewers to the show.”

Jaime Guerra, director of the Mediaset España content production division, added: “Mediaset España, in its constant search for large international entertainment formats, incorporates Dancing with the Stars, a great show for audiences, into its catalogue. Every week, it will create an event around a spectacular contest starring faces well known to the Spanish audience.”

Alfredo Ereño, executive producer and CEO of Bulldog TV, commented: “At Bulldog TV, we are proud to produce, together with Mediaset España, the leading format in the dance genre. Originally from the BBC, it is the dance program that has traveled the most around the world, breaking audience records in the countries in which it is broadcast. With a combination of quality presenters and high-level participants and a jury, we hope that Dancing with the Stars will be an entertainment proposal that will attract the attention of the audience in our country.”
