CBS Studios International (CBSSI) and Scoope Media have signed a licensing agreement for an African version of the television series The Doctors.

Per the deal, the Scoop! SVOD platform will be the exclusive premiere home of The Doctors in Africa. The adapted program will subsequently premiere on free-to-air and pay-TV broadcasters across the continent. The agreement between CBSSI and Scoope marks the first major international format in Africa for Scoop!.

The Doctors, from the creators of Dr. Phil, explores real-life stories, features celebrity exclusives and provides answers to medical questions, interventions and care. The African version of the series will be an hour-long syndicated program that will offer viewers across the continent health, wellness and lifestyle information. Produced by Scoope Media in the U.K., each episode of the local adaptation will feature African doctors and stories from patients on the continent. It is slated to premiere in the last quarter of 2019.

Roxanne Pompa, VP of formats for CBSSI, said: “It’s terrific that CBS Studios International and [executive producer and host Dr. Dayo] Osholowu are bringing such a globally recognized format like The Doctors to Africa. This is a show that empowers its viewers with insight and information, and will serve as a public service for the broad and engaged audiences found across the African continent.”

Ibukun Lasisi, VP at Scoope Media, added: “This is a huge development for healthcare in Africa as we work with CBS to broaden the global reach of The Doctors brand. A pilot has been shot and it looks fantastic. We are working closely with the leading doctors, healthcare-focused brands and the leading broadcasters across the market to deliver a show that will do more for healthcare in Africa. I can’t wait for Africa to see this and the scale of impact it will deliver for people across the continent.”
