BBC Worldwide Signs Format Deal in Uruguay

BBC Worldwide has done its first format deal in Uruguay, where Canal 10 is putting on air El Gran Uruguayo, based on the U.K. series Great Britons.

In this one-time event series, the public nominates and selects a person who will be crowned the greatest Uruguayan in history. The public can choose from historical figures such as Uruguayan forefather José Gervasio Artigas Arnal, football greats like Obdulio Jacinto Varela and Luis Suarez, novelist and poet Mario Bendetti or tango singer and songwriter Carlos Garde. The series will feature Uruguayan history professor, actor, comedian and presenter Diego Delgrossi.

The Greats format has been sold to more than 20 countries since the series launched on the BBC in 2002.
