LONDON: BBC One has lined up Pitch Battle (working title), a brand-new Saturday night music entertainment show from Tuesday’s Child (You’re Back in the Room).

Set to premiere in 2017, the contemporary competition show will feature the best singing groups from across the U.K. It will cover all types of music, from pop and rock to folk and gospel to a cappella groups and fishermen’s choirs. The groups will compete in various musical challenges in five hour-long episodes leading up to the finale.

The show was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, the director of BBC content, and Kate Phillips, the controller of entertainment commissioning. Phillips commented: “There are millions of people in the U.K. of all ages and backgrounds who sing simply for the love of it, for the joy and sense of community it creates. Tuesday’s Child’s excellent new format reflects this with shed loads of sass and spirit. We can’t wait to get started!”

Karen Smith, the CEO of Tuesday’s Child who also executive produces the series, added, “After a divisive, depressing 2016, we’re bringing some humor and harmony to 2017 in a contemporary new format with story, scale and spelling-binding, hairs-on-the-back-of-your-neck performances.”

Pitch Battle is a 6×60-minute format and was awarded to Tuesday’s Child following a three-stage pitch process after 12 independent producers submitted proposals. The series will be distributed by BBC Worldwide.
