All3Media International & Banijay Asia Team for Format Adaptations

All3Media International has partnered with Banijay Asia, which will produce local versions of the scripted format Rellik and the reality entertainment format Rise and Fall for the Asia-Pacific region.

Rellik, originally produced by New Pictures and Two Brothers Pictures for BBC One and Cinemax, begins at the end of an investigation, with a prime suspect caught. It moves backward in time through a string of gruesome murders, gradually unraveling the truth. The detective embarks on an obsessive hunt for the serial killer after the killer leaves a mark on him both physically and mentally. The original is written by Two Brothers Pictures’ Harry and Jack Williams, creators of The Tourist and Boat Story.

Banijay Asia will also produce a local version of Rise and Fall, a reality competition originally from Studio Lambert and Motion Content Group for Channel 4. A group of contestants from all walks of life becomes part of a social experiment that asks how wealth and power shape the way we behave toward one another. The contestants are split into two groups: the “rulers” and the “grafters.”

“As content creators and storytellers, we’re always on the lookout for compelling narratives,” said Mrinalini Jain, executive VP of business and content at Banijay Asia. “We’re excited to secure local adaptation rights for these two very different—yet equally innovative—formats, which are complementary to our own slate and the formats being showcased by Banijay Asia. Tapping into the trend for intelligent reality, Rise and Fall delivers much more than a popularity contest, as it weaves the impact of wealth and power into the game, while Rellik offers a compelling twist on the traditional crime drama. Both titles really stood out to us as having strong potential for our region, and we can’t wait to get started on reimagining them from a local perspective.”

Sabrina Duguet, executive VP for Asia Pacific at All3Media International, said, “We’re very pleased to announce these adaptations for Rise and Fall and Rellik, and I would like to thank Jaenani Netra, our VP of sales, for her work with the Banijay Asia team on this significant deal. As we’ve seen through the roster of adaptations recently signed, there is strong demand in the Asia-Pacific region for high-quality, internationally sourced formats, and this deal gives Banijay Asia an opportunity to deliver impactful local versions of shows from some of the industry’s best creative talents.”

“The team at Banijay Asia are known for adapting some of the hottest international titles, so we know they are the perfect partner to translate these premium shows into series that will resonate with local viewers,” added Netra. “Our diverse formats, both scripted and unscripted, continue to prove very popular in the region, and the success of adaptations such as Dark Money and Liar can only continue to build the momentum of our formats business throughout the Asia Pacific.”
