ABC Commercial Scores Sales for You Can’t Ask That

ULTIMO: ABC Commercial has licensed the factual format You Can’t Ask That to new broadcasters in Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain and France.

You Can’t Ask That looks on as marginalized groups of people—from sex workers to Muslims—answer anonymous and taboo questions. In addition to the new European sales, the format has been picked up for broadcast in the U.S. and Brazil. The show already debuted on ABC’s iView VOD service and ABC TV in Australia.

Katherine McMillan, sales manager for formats and Latin America at ABC Commercial, commented: “The raft of deals, including with Newen in France and avid interest across Europe, show the strength of You Can’t Ask That. We’re confident more territories will embrace the program as audiences clearly have an appetite for thought-provoking and candid stories.”

Fanchon Giorda, Newen’s development director, added: “We are excited to acquire such bold programming that will both entertain and inform audiences about real people and real issues. In a world of political correctness, You Can’t Ask That goes where you shouldn’t go, asking uncomfortable and naïve questions in an attempt to break down stereotypes.”
