Indonesian Adaptation of Turkish Drama Elif

STOCKHOLM: Indonesian broadcaster SCTV has signed on to make a local version of the Turkish drama Elif, distributed by Eccho Rights.

Production is set to start in two weeks, with SCTV’s sister company Screenplay Productions at the helm. The adaptation will air in January. The drama focuses on a young girl whose mother sends her to a farm to protect her from her dangerous stepfather.

SCTV previously aired the first two seasons of the original series, which was produced by Green Yapim for Turkish broadcaster Kanal 7. Eccho Rights has also sold the readymade version to Prava in Serbia, Kanal 5 in Macedonia and Netflix in the U.K. and U.S.

Nixon Yau Lim, the head of Asia Pacific at Eccho Rights, said: “Elif has pushed all the right buttons with Indonesian audiences. The family-oriented story lines plus just the right amount of drama keeps viewers engaged day after day. We can’t wait to see what the local version looks like.”

Elif has turned around our daytime programming and had such an unforeseen impact on our audiences,” said Banardi Rachmad, the general manager for programming acquisition at SCTV. “We now want to remake the show to give it more of a local flavor in order to widen the appeal of the show here in Indonesia.”
