Selected races will be broadcast on NENT Group\u2019s free-TV channels. The W Series championship, which is intended to provide a bridge to Formula 1, features all participants driving identical Tatuus Formula 3 cars with a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine. The inaugural W Series season kicks off on May 4 at Germany\u2019s Hockenheim circuit and will include six races in total. The 2020 season will expand to ten races.<\/p>\n<p>Among the 18 drivers competing from 13 countries for a $1.5 million prize pool in this year\u2019s W Series championship is Finland\u2019s Emma Kimil\u00e4inen.<\/p>\n<p>Kimil\u00e4inen said: \u201cI\u2019m really excited to have made the grid for W Series\u2014it\u2019s an incredible opportunity for me and all the drivers. I\u2019ll be doing absolutely everything to win the series, and knowing that my family, friends and fans in Finland and the Nordics are watching gives me the support and strength to fight for the title.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kim Mikkelsen, NENT Group&#8217;s head of sport, said: \u201cIt\u2019s been far too long\u201443 years\u2014since a woman started a Formula 1 Grand Prix race. W Series offers thrilling action to race fans, as well as a timely platform to boost female participation at motorsport\u2019s highest level and inspire a new generation of drivers and engineers.
