Another company format highlight, <em>Cash Out<\/em>, sees ordinary people being given a helping hand to achieve their ambitions, though it may require them to sell off precious belongings. Two comedians come to the aid of small companies struggling to stay afloat in <em>To the Rescue<\/em>. \u201cAll three shows tackle issues that are not only universal in their appeal but are also universally relevant,\u201d says Paulina Eklund, the VP of sales for the Nordics, North America, LatAm and Africa at Nordic World. \u201cThey\u2019re fun in the moment, but they also give viewers a lasting gift in the form of new information, new skills or a new way of looking at life\u2019s challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strongly believe in \u2018entertainment with a purpose,\u2019\u201d says Eklund.<\/p>\n<p>The Norwegian dark comedy <em>Maniac<\/em> has already piqued the interest of the U.S. market, with an English-language remake launching on Netflix next year with Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in lead roles. Both<em> Small Town Love<\/em> and <em>Next Summer<\/em> are also in development in the U.S., and Nordic World has placed all three titles at the top of its MIPCOM slate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA new wave of Nordic drama has now arrived, which blends drama and comedy with beautifully crafted plots and memorable characters,\u201d says Ann Christin Siljan, the VP of acquisitions at Nordic World. \u201c<em>Maniac<\/em>, <em>Small Town Love<\/em> and <em>Next Summer<\/em> not only deal with universal themes\u2014mental health, family, relationships\u2014in a funny and affectionate way, but they do so realistically, honestly and simply in a way that I think is uniquely Nordic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She adds, \u201cWe are expanding our focus on both Nordic and international drama, and are seeking to invest in European co-productions.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CANNES: In Nordic World\u2019s The Stream, new artists are discovered and created in a way that replicates the workings of today\u2019s music industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[69],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7092","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","","category-top-stories"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 -
