LONDON: The ITV drama Appropriate Adult<\/em>, about serial killer Fred West, scored four nominations for the 2012 BAFTA television awards, including nods for best actor and best actress.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The lead actor category features Dominic West for his role in Appropriate Adult<\/em>, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock<\/em>, John Simm for Exile<\/em> and Joseph Gilgun for This is England ’88<\/em>. In the best actress category, Appropriate Adult<\/em>‘s Emily Watson is nominated along with Nadine Marshall of Random<\/em>, Romola Garai of The Crimson Petal and the White<\/em> and Vicky McClure of This is England ’88<\/em>. Supporting nods went to actors Andrew Scott and Martin Freeman for Sherlock<\/em>, Joseph Mawle for Birdsong<\/em> and Stephen Rea for The Shadowline<\/em>. Supporting actress nominations went to Anna Chancellor for The Hour<\/em>, Maggie Smith for Downton Abbey<\/em>, Miranda Hart for Call the Midwife<\/em> and Monica Dolan for Appropriate Adult<\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The performance category for entertainment features the nominees Alan Carr for Alan Carr Chatty Man<\/em>, Dara O’Briain for Mock the Week<\/em>, Graham Norton for The Graham Norton Show<\/em> and Harry Hill for Harry Hill’s TV Burp<\/em>. In the comedy arena, best actress nods went to Jennifer Saunders for Absolutely Fabulous<\/em>, Olivia Colman for Twenty Twelve<\/em>, Ruth Jones for Stella<\/em> and Tamsin Greig for Friday Night Dinner<\/em>. The male nominees are Brendan O’Carroll for Mrs. Brown’s Boys<\/em>, Darren Boyd for Spy<\/em>, Hugh Bonneville for Twenty Twelve<\/em> and Tom Hollander for <\/span>Rev. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Appropriate Adult<\/span><\/span><\/em> is also up for best mini-series, competing with The Crimson Petal and the White<\/em>, This is England ’88<\/em> and Top Boy<\/em>. The drama series category features The Fades<\/em>, Misfits<\/em>, Scott and Bailey <\/em>and Spooks<\/em>. The contenders for best single drama are Holy Flying Circus<\/em>, Page Eight<\/em>, Random<\/em> and Stolen<\/em>, while soap\/continuing drama nominees are Coronation Street<\/em>, EastEnders<\/em>, Holby City<\/em> and Shameless<\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Modern Family<\/span><\/span><\/em> is up for best international series, facing competition from Borgen<\/em>, The Killing <\/em>and The Slap<\/em>. In the factual arena, The Choir: Military Wives<\/em> is up against Educating Essex<\/em>, Our War<\/em> and Protecting Our Children: Damned If We Do Damned If We Don’t<\/em>. Specialist factual contenders are British Masters<\/em>, Frozen Planet<\/em>, Mummifying Alan: Egypt’s Last Secret<\/em> and Wonders of the Universe<\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

An Idiot Abroad<\/span><\/span><\/em> is nominated in the category for reality\/constructed factual, which also features Don’t Tell the Bride<\/em>, Made in Chelsea<\/em> and The Young Apprentice<\/em>. Celebrity Juice<\/em>, Derren Brown: The Experiments<\/em>, Harry Hill’s TV Burp <\/em>and Michael McIntyre’s Christmas Comedy Roadshow <\/em>will compete for the win for best entertainment program. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
